Barco Projector
Repair Specialists
When visual perfection is mandatory. We are the UK's leading independent engineering centre for Barco systems. From critical Series 4 Cinema downtime to UDX Event fleet maintenance, we diagnose and repair the industry's most advanced projection hardware.
Engineer's Insight:
"Barco projectors are engineering marvels, but complex. The Light Processor (LPM) in Series 2 cinema units is prone to 'Error 5555'. This isn't always a dead board; often it's a degradation of the thermal compound on the DMD heatsink or a backplane seating issue. We rebuild these units to save £10k+ on replacement costs."

Mission-Critical Maintenance
Barco defines the high-end visual landscape, from local multiplexes to global stadium tours. However, the sophistication of Pulse Electronics and Alchemy media servers requires specialist diagnostic tools.
Pulse Electronics Repair: Modern Barco units (UDX, F-Series) run on the unified Pulse platform. Software corruption or FPGA failures can cause the projector to hang on boot or display geometric distortion. We use proprietary JTAG interfaces to re-flash corrupted bootloaders and replace faulty processing chips.
Liquid Cooling & Phosphor Wheels: In the UDX and HDX series, cooling is critical. The liquid cooling loops use a specific glycol mix. If this is not flushed every 3-5 years, sediment blocks the laser plates, causing thermal throttling. Additionally, the high-speed phosphor wheels (creating yellow light from blue lasers) rely on ceramic bearings that eventually wear, causing vibration and noise. We refurbish these mechanical assemblies.
Cinema Compliance: For D-Cinema clients, we handle the Alchemy Integrated Media Block (IMB). Security "Marriage" breaks and tamper errors can ground a theatre. We provide the certified resets and hardware repairs needed to keep the movies playing.
Cinema (Series 2/4)
Resolving Error 5555, IMB Marriage issues, and Convergence drift on DP2K/DP4K.
Pulse Electronics
Component-level repair of Input and Formatter boards for UDX and F-Series.
Laser Cooling
Pump replacement, glycol refilling, and radiator cleaning for high-brightness events.
Mechanics
Refurbishing Phosphor Wheels and Colour Wheels to eliminate vibration and noise.
Cinema Series Error Codes
Specific to DP2K, DP4K, and S-Series Digital Cinema Projectors.
| Error Code | Description | Engineer's Detailed Analysis |
|---|---|---|
| Error 5555 | Light Processor Communication Failure | The "Red Light of Death" for cinema. The Cinema Controller cannot talk to the TI Formatter Board. This is often caused by thermal stress cracking solder joints on the Formatter or oxidation on the backplane connectors. We perform BGA rework to save the board. |
| Error 5310 / 12100 | Security / Marriage Error | The tamper detection loop has been broken. This happens if the IMB (Media Block) is removed without service mode, or if the battery on the security board dies. Requires an authorised "Marriage" reset and potentially a battery replacement. |
| Error 4200 - 4250 | Thermal Sensor Out of Range | The projector detects a temperature anomaly. Code 4210 usually points to the DMD cooling loop. This isn't just a fan; it often means the liquid cooling pump has failed or the coolant has evaporated, requiring a system flush. |
| Error 11520 | Fan Speed Error | A specific cooling fan (often the Lamp/Laser exhaust) is not reaching target RPM. Barco units use PWM 4-wire fans. We stock the specific NMB or Delta fans required to clear this interlock. |
Pulse / Event Series Error Codes
Specific to UDX, F-Series, and HDX Projectors.
| Indicator / Code | Likely Fault | Resolution Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Status LED: Solid Red | General System Failure | On Pulse units, a solid red light often means the bootloader has failed or the internal power rails (LVPS) are unstable. We check the 3.3V and 5V standby rails on the mainboard first. |
| Error 76 / 77 | Formatter / SSM Communication | Communication lost with the DMD driver. In UDX units, this can be caused by a loose flex cable after transport. In F-Series, it often indicates a scaler board failure. |
| Error 104 | Colour/Phosphor Wheel Index | The sensor cannot detect the rotation marker on the wheel. Usually means the wheel motor is failing or the sensor is dusted over. Cleaning helps, but motor replacement is the long-term fix. |
