The Hardest Working Tech in School

Promethean projectors are the workhorses of the UK education system. Mounted on ceiling booms, they are exposed to rising heat and chalk dust for 6-8 hours a day. This unique environment leads to specific failure modes that generic repair shops often miss.

DLP Failure (PRM-45): The PRM-45 uses a DLP chip. When the cooling fans become clogged with dust, the chip overheats, causing micro-mirrors to seize. This results in a "Starry Night" effect of white or black dots. We replace the chip and upgrade the thermal interface material.

LCD Degradation (PRM-30/35): These older models use LCD panels. Over time, the organic polarisers burn, creating a yellow or purple sludge-like stain on the image. We rebuild the optical engine with new polarising filters to restore crisp whites.

No Power / Clicking: If your unit clicks but won't start, the Ballast Unit or Power Supply (PSU) has likely failed due to thermal stress. We perform component-level board repairs to bring dead units back to life.

DMD Repair

Fixing "White Dots" on PRM-45 & UST-P1 DLP models.

LCD Optics

Replacing burnt polarisers on PRM-30/35 to fix yellow stains.

Cooling

Replacing noisy or seized fans to prevent thermal shutdown.

Power Logic

Repairing "Dead" units that click but fail to strike the lamp.

Diagnostics

Promethean Error Code Database

Promethean projectors use the Power and Menu LEDs to signal faults. Use this matrix to identify your issue.

LED Status Indicated Fault Engineer's Note
Solid Red (Power) Lamp / Ballast Failure The unit cannot ignite the lamp. Usually a blown bulb, but if a new bulb fails, the Ballast unit (HV ignition) has failed.
Flashing Red (2 Blinks)
Overheating (Chassis) The internal temperature is too high. The projector shuts down to save the mainboard. Check filters. If filters are clean, an intake fan is dead.
Flashing Red (4 Blinks)
Fan Failure A specific fan (usually the blower) is not spinning or the tachometer wire is broken. The unit will not start until the fan is replaced.
Solid Amber System Standby / Lock Normal standby mode. If the unit refuses to wake up from Amber, the mainboard logic has frozen or the power supply capacitors are failing.
Loud Whining Noise Colour Wheel Bearing Specific to DLP models (PRM-32/35/45). The colour wheel bearing is dry. Needs immediate replacement before the wheel shatters.
