Sanyo Projector
Repair Centre
Supporting the thousands of Sanyo projectors still powering UK classrooms and home cinemas. We provide specialist engineering for the PLC-XU, PLV-Z, and PDG series, ensuring your trusted hardware keeps running.
Technician's Note:
"Sanyo projectors (later acquired by Panasonic) pioneered the AMF (Active Maintenance Filter). This motorized scroll keeps dust out, but the gears often strip with age, causing the 'Filter' warning to flash. We stock the replacement gear kits and genuine filter scrolls to fix this common mechanical fault."

Common Sanyo Faults & Fixes
Sanyo was a dominant force in 3LCD projection. While extremely reliable, the age of these units means specific components are now reaching their end-of-life. However, the high build quality makes them well worth repairing compared to cheap modern alternatives.
Optical Block Yellowing: The most frequent issue on the PLC-XU and PLV series. The organic polarising plates burn out, causing a yellow haze or purple blotches. We strip the optical block and replace the degraded filters with modern inorganic equivalents that last longer.
Iris & Shutter Mechanics: The PLV-Z home cinema range uses a dynamic iris for deep blacks. The stepper motor driving this iris can seize, causing a loud buzzing on startup. We refurbish the mechanism to restore silent operation.
QuaDrive™ Repair: High-end Sanyo installation units used a 4th "Colour Control Device" panel for enhanced yellow reproduction. We are one of the few centres with the alignment tools to calibrate this unique Quad-LCD system.

Sanyo Error Code Database
Sanyo projectors use LAMP, WARNING, and READY LEDs. Use this matrix to identify your issue.
| LED Status | Indicated Fault | Engineer's Note |
|---|---|---|
|
WARNING (Red Flash)
|
Abnormal Temperature | The internal temperature is too high. The unit shuts down to protect the LCDs. Usually caused by a blocked AMF filter or a stalled intake fan. |
|
WARNING (Red Solid)
|
Power Supply / Fan Lock | Critical failure. The projector detects a voltage irregularity or a completely seized fan. It will not attempt to boot. |
|
LAMP REPLACE (Yellow)
|
Lamp End of Life | The lamp counter has exceeded the limit. The projector may refuse to turn on until the lamp is replaced and the counter is manually reset via the service menu. |
|
LAMP (Red Flash)
|
Lamp Ignition Fail | The ballast cannot strike the lamp. Check the bulb first. If the bulb is new, the thermal interlock switch or the ballast unit itself is faulty. |
|
READY (Green Flash)
|
Cooling Down / Shutter | Normal operation during cooldown. However, if it flashes green indefinitely and never enters standby, the mainboard logic is frozen. |
