Smartboard Projector
Repair Centre
We keep classrooms running. Specialist repair for Unifi, UX, and U-Series integrated projectors. Trusted by 500+ UK schools for fast, reliable service with PO acceptance.
Technician's Note:
"Smartboard projectors like the Unifi 45 and UX60 often suffer from 'The Red Light of Death'. This is usually a failure in the ballast or colour wheel, not just the bulb. We rebuild the internal optical engines to extend the life of these legacy units for another 3-5 years."
— Senior Bench Engineer
Common Classroom Faults
Classroom environments are tough on technology. Chalk dust, constant use, and poor ventilation in ceiling voids lead to specific failures in Smart Technologies equipment.
Colour Wheel Failure (Loud Whining): The spinning colour wheel bearings dry out due to heat and dust. This creates a loud, high-pitched screeching noise. If ignored, the wheel shatters, destroying the internal sensor. We replace the entire wheel assembly with an upgraded bearing unit.
DMD Failure (White Dots): Often called "Pixellation" or "Starry Night", this is caused by the DLP chip overheating. Thousands of tiny mirrors get stuck 'On'. This makes text unreadable for students. We replace the DMD chip and apply industrial thermal paste to prevent recurrence.
DMD Chip
Replacement of the imaging chip to cure white/black dead pixel syndrome.
Power / Ballast
Repairing "Dead" units and "Red Light" errors where the lamp won't strike.
Cooling Fans
Replacing seized blower fans that cause "Temp" warning shutdowns.
Colour Wheel
Fixing loud whining noises, flickering colours, and greyscale images.
Smartboard Error Code Database
Use the Power and Service LEDs on the ECP (Extended Control Panel) or the projector unit to identify the fault.
| LED Status | Indicated Fault | Engineer's Note |
|---|---|---|
| Solid Red | Lamp / Ballast Failure | The most common error. The projector cannot strike the lamp. Usually a blown bulb, but often the Ballast unit itself has failed. |
| Flashing Red | Thermal Shutdown / Fan | The unit is overheating. Check if the intake fan is spinning. If the filter is clean and it still flashes, a fan sensor has failed. |
| Flashing Amber | Power Standby / Cool Down | Normal behavior during cool down. If it stays flashing Amber indefinitely and never turns green, the mainboard logic is frozen. |
| Flashing Green | Boot Up Sequence | The projector is warming up. If it flashes green for 60s then turns red, the colour wheel has failed to spin up to speed. |
| "Filter Warning" OSD | Service Timer Reached | Not a fault, but a reminder. However, resetting the timer without actually cleaning the filter will lead to thermal damage very quickly. |
Supported Smartboard Families
