The Unique Engineering Challenge of USTs

Classroom projectors endure some of the harshest operating conditions: chalk dust, 8-hour daily run times, and accidental physical impacts. Most modern classrooms utilise Ultra Short Throw (UST) technology to project large images from mere inches away.

Aspheric Mirror Geometry

USTs rely on a precision curved mirror. A misalignment of just 1mm, often caused by a student bumping the unit, can distort the image geometry significantly. Standard "keystone" buttons cannot fix this; it requires mechanical optical bench realignment.

Interactivity Sensor Failure

Interactive pens work by reflecting IR light back to a camera sensor. Dust buildup on this sensor window is the #1 cause of "pen not tracking" faults. We use specific optical solvents to clean these sensors without damaging the IR coating.

Supported Platforms

Specialised Education Hardware

We maintain specific stock of refurbished parts for legacy and current-gen classroom systems.

Promethean

The ActivBoard standard. Common faults include power supply failure (no lights) and colour wheel shattering on DLP models.

Models Supported:

  • • PRM-30 / 35 (LCD)
  • • PRM-45 (DLP)
  • • EST-P1 / UST-P1
  • • SSI / SSH Series

Smart Technologies

Known for the Unifi and LightRaise series. We frequently repair the "Red Light of Death" caused by ballast failure or lamp timer errors.

Models Supported:

  • • Smart U100 / U100w
  • • Smart V30
  • • Unifi 45 / 55 / 65
  • • UX60 / UX80

Epson BrightLink

The market leader in interactive 3LCD. Prone to "dust blobs" (discolouration) and temperature sensor errors if filters are neglected.

Models Supported:

  • • EB-455Wi / 485Wi
  • • EB-575Wi / 585Wi
  • • EB-685Wi (Laser)
  • • EB-1485Fi

Safety & Safeguarding

We understand the strict compliance requirements for working with educational institutions.

Enhanced DBS Checks

Every engineer and logistics driver who visits a school site holds a current Enhanced DBS certificate. We carry photo ID at all times.

Electrical Safety (PAT)

Every repaired unit undergoes a comprehensive Portable Appliance Test (PAT) and earth bond test before being returned to the classroom.

CASE STUDY

Multi-Academy Trust Fleet Restoration

The Problem: A Trust in Manchester had 20 Promethean PRM-45 units displaying "white dots" and shutting down due to heat. A replacement quote was over £25,000.

Our Solution: We collected the units during half-term. Our team replaced the faulty DMD chips, chemically cleaned the optical engines, and replaced the intake fans.

Restored Projector Image

"Projector Repair UK saved our IT budget for the year. The units look brand new." — IT Director

Common Classroom Faults

"No Signal" on Wall Plate

This is often the wall connection box or the VGA/HDMI cable running through the trunking, not the projector itself. However, we frequently repair broken HDMI ports on the projector where cables have been yanked.

Image is Dim / Hard to See

In 3LCD units (Epson), this is often dust on the optical engine or an old lamp. In DLP units (Promethean), it can be a failing colour wheel. A service restores brightness.

How do we send them to you?

We organise a secure DPD collection from your school reception. For bulk orders (5+ units), we can arrange a pallet collection. You just need to box them up.
